Surgery for vitiligo is done after trying the medical treatment and the white spots are stationery (not growing)for at least two years. Over grafting is a very good method of melanocyte transfer, wherein the white spot is dermabraded and a thin sheet of graft or minced skin graft paste is applied to that area and over a period of time the area repigments.

One may need to take the UV light treatment to accelerate the pigmentation
